Description

This qualification is part of a suite of ESOL Skills for Life qualifications which are designed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required to communicate effectively through reading, writing and/or speaking and listening in their everyday life, study or the world of work. This course will also have additional elements included planning for progression and 2 week enrichment activities.  

Aim
The purpose of this course is to support speakers of other languages based in the UK to develop their English language skills. It focuses on language used in everyday situations and helps learners to understand and use written or spoken English. The course helps learners to develop reading, writing, speaking, listening and communication skills, which are essential for work, further study, access to public services, or just to function more effectively in an English-speaking environment.

What you will learn
1. How to order words alphabetically. 2 .Construct simple and compound sentences correctly. 3. Learn simple punctuation and grammar. 4. Read and understand the meaning of short texts. 5. Produce short simple texts such as emails, letters and filling in forms. 6. Identify the purposes of different types of simple texts. 7. Obtain relevant information from images. 8. Follow the gist of verbal communication. 9 .Convey information and engage in discussion. 10. Improve spelling and pronunciation of common everyday words.

Suitability and Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, but learners are required to complete an initial and diagnostic assessment. These identify the appropriate level of study, as well as the learning priorities which need to be addressed within the level studied.

Accreditation, qualifications and assessment methods
This qualification is assessed via 3 controlled assessments which cover: - Reading - Writing - Speaking, Listening and Communicating Learners can either complete individual Awards in: ESOL Skills for Life (Reading) ESOL Skills for Life (Writing) ESOL Skills for Life (Speaking and Listening) OR The full Certificate in ESOL Skills for Life covering reading, writing and speaking and listening

Resources, materials and additional costs
All teaching and learning materials will be provided. You will need to buy writing paper, pens, a folder for completed work and handouts, and a dictionary.
