This is the highest HSE recognised first aid qualification workshop, covering low - high risk workplaces, so great for all to attend as we cover many first aid emergencies.
The course covers first aid protocols for adults as well as the following additional material paediatric CPR & choking too.
Aim
- Gain the skills and confidence to give life saving First Aid in a low to high-risk workplace.
- Also, having the skills to help a loved one or member of the public in an emergency.
What you will learn on this course
- First Aid Kits, Record Keeping, HSE Regulations, Incident Approach.
- Mechanism of Injury (how the accident happened) & History.
- Care of the unconscious casualty: Adult Basic Life Support (CPR),
- Use of an Automated External Defibrillator, for any casualty aged over 1:
practicing on the adult & child CPR mannequins.
- Spinal & Recovery Position.
- The Recognition & treatment of:
- Difficulties in Breathing: Drowning & Water Safety, Asthma, Panic Attacks, Allergies plus administration of the EpiPen, Jext & Emerade, Choking, Shock & Fainting, Heart Conditions, Strokes, Epilepsy, Diabetes, Burns, Poisons, Head & Spinal Injuries, Severe Bleeding, Specific major & minor injuries. The use of Haemostatic Dressings & Tourniquets to treat Severe Traumatic Injuries, Fractures, Dislocations, Strains & Sprains.
- Incident Role Play in caring for:
- An unconscious casualty, casualties with simulated injuries, dangerous & complicated incidents.

We do not get to choose our casualty. We want you to learn to care for all aged & sized casualties.

Suitable for those new to First Aid & for the more experienced First Aider.
Suitability and Entry Requirements
This course is aimed at learners who have little or no experience of First Aid to those who have great knowledge & experience.
This is a very practical course which will involve placing each other in the Recovery Position, etc. If you would prefer you can practice on our full-bodied child mannequin, "Tom".
If you have any mobility issues, please discuss with the instructor in advance of booking. I am sure we can work around any such issues.
Where possible we will work around your extra learning requirements.

All courses are run in a professional, interesting, yet fun manner. We will have plenty of practical aspects using the various training aids, prop's, photographs, etc. We will physically practice the Recovery Position & Spinal Recovery Position. Keeping the training as realistic & interactive as possible.
Accreditation, qualifications and assessment methods
The Health & Safety Executive no longer approve first aid training companies to run first aid courses. However, this course is in line with their set stipulations on what needs to be covered on this 3-day course. You will receive continued support throughout your course whilst your instructor assesses your competence. Showing life saving care to the Annie CPR mannequins & to each other during the incident practices, will award you with this qualification, the highest recognised first aid qualification. This qualification is valid for 3 years. Before the 3 years expiry you will need to attend a 2-day First Aid at work refresher course to update the qualification.
Use of an automated external defibrillator & the various allergy medications: Epi pen, Jext & Emerade, qualifications are only ever valid for 1 year in line with resuscitation Council UK Guidelines.
You are welcome to attend our 3-hour course to re-fresh that qualification.

You will have pre-course & post-course learning.
If you can watch at least 2 of the recommended 28+ e-learning videos, before the course, this will take you only 16 minutes.

Jane Ferrett:
Jane became a First Aid at Work First Aider in 1991. In 1993 she qualified as a First Aid Instructor & Assessor. She has worked for many years for various HSE Approved First Aid training companies. She believes that any person can learn to save the life of a colleague, a loved one or even a member of the public.
In 1997 she started her own First Aid training company, "Accident & Emergency Limited".
She gained HSE approval to run First Aid at Work courses. Then in October 2013, the HSE ceased its role in the monitoring of First Aid training companies. She ensures courses are still run-in line with the HSE's high standards.
